Y Kant I Be Tori? Little Earthquakes: a type of performance exegesis
August 22, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Responding directly to the festival premise of an ever increasing frightening world, this ekphrasis work draws on selected songs from the 1992 album Little Earthquakes. Solo performance artist Mark J Wilson poetically dissects the current global political context in juxtaposition to alternative 1990s melancholy.
Why it is that he can’t be Tori? Is a pun on the precursor EP: Y Kant Tori Read – these songs are a safe space that Wilson retreats to as he responds to an ever increasing frightening world.
Described as a beat poet, Wilson’s style is unique, he works without narrative or plot: and deconstructs performance conventions. This work provides viewers opportunities to consider the current political landscape and the timelessness of this iconic album.
Wilson fuses visual and performance art in his bricolage style.
