What makes you stay up at night; Let it out
August 23, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm
What are your fears?
How do we respond to an increasingly frightening world?
We live in an age of anxiety, where fear is the order of the day. No longer contained to the depths of night, fear prevails through the news, the media, entertainment and politics. Its presence in our lives both dictates and defines the ways in which we interact with each other and ourselves. And yet, in spite of its omnipotence, fear is something we often forget to acknowledge and discuss, perhaps out of terror at confronting this very fear.
As part of Mudfest 2017 comes a collaboration between DJ, producer and Classical Musician Ruby Willis and writer, visual artist and founder of Eat if you are Hungry zine Eleanor Evans-McCooey that aims to confront fear using a collation of music and imagery. By asking the question, ‘what are you afraid of?” the pair aims to talk openly about personal fears as a means to both understand and dilute the hold these fears can have on our lives.
In addition to this, the use of music and matching visual imagery endeavours to facilitate a focus on fear that is conceptually stunning as well as emotionally resounding. In this way, ‘title’ hopes to assuage not only the intimate fears we have, but also the fear surrounding that very fear.
