The Creative’s Toolbox: Emotional Safety for Artists at Work

August 23, 2017 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Workshop facilitated by Sarah Borg.

As creatives, emotions and emotional experiences can be the lifeblood of our work. How can we play with emotional richness and complexity in a way that is also safe for our personal emotional wellbeing? This session is all about exploring ways to implement emotional safeguards into your professional creative practice.

Sarah Borg

Sarah’s experience in the performance industry began with a bit of board treading at WAAPA (Acting, 2004) and Curtin University’s Hayman Theatre. Then came further training with Song of the Goat Theatre in Poland and over a decade of performance work across stage and screen. While struggling to navigate the realities of being a working actor, Sarah began studying clinical psychology and found herself in the midst of a career shift. Now a registered psychologist, Sarah splits her time between working in community clinical mental health settings and her role as Principal Psychologist with Green Room Psychology.
Sarah is also currently co-chair of MEAA’s Equity Wellness Committee. Some of Sarah’s favourite recent work includes exploring personality dysfunction with a theatre ensemble; advising on the psychology of trauma to help a specific character development prep; and supporting professional creatives to cultivate emotional safety in their performance processes.
