Disability in the Arts Panel

August 25, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm

What is Access?

Who is it for?

Why do we do it?

In this frightening world, it is easy, even normal, to forget about others, and just focus on your self. Why bother with other people, with other problems; when you can’t even fend for yourself?

This thinking can and does extend to the arts; sometimes in subtle and unobtrusive ways.
Mudfest 2017 wants to change that. We’ve got a whole host of accessible measures in place; from AUSLAN interpreting to audio-description, captioning to tactile tours, wheelchair-accessible venues to content/trigger warnings, even companion cards; to show that it’s not really that hard. Even better, that it opens up a whole new version of art we haven’t even thought of yet.

Join our panelists: Sasha Cheryllyn Chong, a singer; Jess Kapuscinski-Evans, a theatre virtuoso;  Christian Tsoutsouvas, a radio superstar; and Josh Lynzaat, an audio describer and previous Access Manger for Mudfest 2015; as they unpack what it means to engage audiences through accessible arts practices.

This panel is facilitated by one of the Access Managers of Mudfest 2017, Russell Wong.
